Talk Program on Nepal-US Cooperation

On November 6, 2019 the Institute of Foreign Affairs organized a talk program on “Nepal-US Cooperation: How can Nepal ensure sustainable economic growth”.

On the occasion, the keynote speaker was Ms. Samantha Custer, Director of Policy Analysis at AidData of the United States. In the course of her speech, she dwelt on the importance of the infrastructure, connectivity, financing for the projects, good governance and control over the misutilization and waste of resources. She has also pointed out that the assistance rendered by the United States to Nepal has come without any string.

On conclusion of her speech, eminent economists of Nepal Dr. Shanker Prasad Sharma and Dr. Rabindra Kumar Shakya as well as other experts Dr. Narendra Raj Panudel and Dr. Suresh Pradhan made observations on her speech and asked pertinent queries related with the US assistance to Nepal.

Earlier, Executive Director Mr. Rajesh Shrestha welcomed Ms. Samantha Custer and remarked the significant contribution to Nepal’s socio-economic development. The cooperation has also deepened the mutual contacts at the official as well as people-to people level. He also expected similar cooperation policy to continue from the government of the United States.

Before the conclusion of the program, the Institute of Foreign Affairs thanked her for her analytical and precise presentation and asked her to convey to the government of the United States the views and opinions raised from the audience.

It may be noted the AidData is a non-governmental think tank of the United States that used to provide data, tools, policy advice to the governments.

The program was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of the United States based in Kathmandu.
